Steve Strain

Steve’s work covers organisational design and change project management and consultancy, primarily for IT organisations. Having worked on various IT transformation programmes over the past 6 years within the Civil Service his company, SLS Transition, has particular expertise in public sector change solutions.

It was through providing elements of these services to Ministry of Justice in 2012 which brought Steve to contact IPSE as a member. The review into tax arrangements of public sector appointee’s required a solution to ensure his client at that time discharged their obligations to HMT while at the same time not alienating the contractor base and putting critical programmes at risk. Steve developed the solution now used widely across government and liaised with IPSE to hold a number of seminars with contractors affected to guide them through the review. Steve has carried on this work with UK Home Office and Crown Commercial Services to help redesign the contractual elements of the CL-One Framework across government.

Elected to the Consultative Council in 2014 Steve is passionate about freelancing, and strives to help IPSE continue its successful evolution from an ‘IR35 focused’ group to one which truly is “the voice of freelancing” in the UK.
