Formal training avenues can enhance the specialist skills of a contractor, it has been suggested. And according to Ed Gandia, co-author of The Wealthy Freelancer, such platforms can complement an individual's talent and provide a compelling package for clients. In a piece for Freelance Folder, he wrote that a background in a particular area of expertise can lend contractors "tremendous credibility". However, the author also observed that self-employed people can approach a career from a variety of different angles. "Some of the best writers and designers I know do not have what you might call traditional creative backgrounds," Mr Gandia stated. As such, it may be the case that although talent in itself might not be enough, freelancers can add to their wealth of knowledge by carrying out relevant courses. Citing such information could be a valuable way of producing advertising literature that grabs the attention of customers far and wide.
