| PCG ready and waiting to start work with the new Government |
|
Following an unprecedented period of political uncertainty after the election of the first hung parliament for decades, PCG welcomes the fact that the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats were able to put together a coalition to tackle the current economic crisis. We believe that the members of the new Government will work together to address the issues faced by freelancers. In particular, we will encourage both parties to pursue the abolition or full review of the unfair IR35 tax, which hinders the ability of freelance workers to contribute to the UK’s economic recovery. Commenting, John Brazier, Managing Director of PCG said: “We are obviously in uncharted waters. However, PCG has established a good working relationship with both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats in Opposition, and we are confident this will continue in Government. Both parties have expressed the need for change with regards to IR35, and both parties value the flexible, skilled workforce PCG members provide.” The dire economic situation and the structural deficit will of course be a priority for the new coalition, and there is no doubt tough times are ahead for everyone. Therefore it is essential that the UK’s 1.4 million freelancers are unhindered as they work hard to provide the specialist skills UK plc needs to climb out of recession. We fully support any efforts that are made to reform the UK’s small business taxation system, and we will continue to seek a revenue neutral solution to IR35. We will work closely with the new Government to deliver the changes needed to allow freelancers, and the UK economy as a whole, to flourish. |
